Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler helped kick off fashion week in New York with a cocktail party to celebrate their new store on Madison Avenue on Wednesday, the eve of NYFW’s first official day. Between the store party and their runway show next Wednesday, the designers are essentially bookending the week. It’s a seven-day sprint at the end of a marathon summer, which “kind of sucked,” admitted Hernandez. “You’ve been away at the beach, and we’ve been working on this all summer. But we’ll take our August in September. We’re going to Paris, China and maybe New Zealand for a month after the show.”
Lest anyone thought the store opening would preclude Proenza’s usual postshow party, Hernandez assured it is still on and it will be “really big.”

A mix of models, editors and friends including Rachel Zoe and Kate Bosworth showed up to toast the store. Bosworth, a seasoned fan of the design duo, got to the store early for a private tour courtesy of the men of the hour.
“I said, ‘Jack, this is a little bit of a problem,’” she said. “I am such a huge fan, and if it’s even possible, the store has accentuated the beauty of the items. I was eyeing some boots.”
For Bosworth, it was also a warm-up of sorts for the week to come. The actress, who recently got engaged, plans to be at Cushnie et Ochs, Joseph Altuzarra, Prabal Gurung, Theyskens’ Theory and, she added with a smile, “Jack and Lazaro.”
