Sofia Coppola’s new film “The Bling Ring” is the fictionalized tale of a group of Los Angeles teenagers who robbed celebrity homes for designer duds. While real-life victim Paris Hilton doesn’t technically appear in the film, the production shot scenes inside her home, which acted as a clubhouse for the teenage bandits, who scheduled their spree around red carpets. So, naturally the socialite could have been forgiven some nerves on Tuesday night as she stepped away from home for the film’s highly publicized Los Angeles premiere and after party.
“I have the most advanced security system now,” an anxiety-free Hilton said between bites of a s’more at the after party at the Chateau Marmont. “It has laser beams, so if anyone walks, it’ll trigger the alarm. I have 24-hour care with cameras everywhere. It’s like Fort Knox.”

Unlike the characters they portrayed, the film’s stars sported loaned luxury labels at the premiere held at the Directors Guild of America. Hosted by Louis Vuitton and Vanity Fair, the evening attracted stars Emma Watson, Taissa Farmiga, Katie Chang, Claire Julien, Israel Broussard and Gavin Rossdale, who were eager to hype up their new flick.
“It’s pretty ironic, huh?” asked newcomer Julien of her pricy Balmain dress.
Farmiga, whose older sister is actress Vera Farmiga, admitted she’s still warming up to the fashion world and also noted the irony. “We talk about how this movie is about obsession and then we try on beautiful gowns for the red carpet. It’s ironic, but you have to find the balance of this crazy world,” she said. “This is so foreign for me. I’m a simple girl. I like jeans and a T-shirt, but this is fun. It’s becoming a part of me now. I love acting and it’s a part of the life. I wouldn’t say it’s a con or a pro, but I’m getting used to it. Who doesn’t like to put on a pretty dress?”
Following a whirlwind trip to the Cannes Film Festival in France, Coppola was happy to be Stateside: “It’s great to be back in L.A., where we made the movie. It feels full circle and complete in that way.”
