Fans, friends and former cover girls gathered at the grand, neoclassic Lancaster House in London’s St. James’s on Wednesday night to celebrate Tatler’s 300th anniversary. “Behaving badly is so much better than not,” said Violet Naylor-Leyland, capturing the spirit of the magazine, which has chronicled society’s scandals since 1709.

More than 500 guests, including Tamara Beckwith, Anya Hindmarch, Samantha Cameron, Amanda Harlech, Rachel Johnson, Viktor Horsting, Rolf Snoeren, Simon Sebag and Santa Montefiore, Alain de Botton, Saffron Aldridge, Amber Le Bon and Peaches Geldof, reminisced about stories and fashion shoots. “They booked me for a bikini shoot, but I couldn’t even fill out the top,” said Beckwith. “I ended up wearing knickers — and having to go topless with my hair artfully arranged over my chest.”

Aldridge, instead, was angling for future work. “You’re looking at 41 — and no Botox,” said the Ralph Lauren model. “Plus, I’m a British girl. I think it’s time for another cover.” — Samantha Conti
