The more esteemed an actor is, the less fussy they are about how they look on a red carpet. Or so it seemed Wednesday night at the Cinema Society and Sony Alpha Nex 5-sponsored screening of “Get Low” where stars Robert Duvall and Sissy Spacek both showed up looking appropriately put together, but not overly so. (The film’s other star, the elusive Bill Murray, was a no show to no surprise.)
For his moment in the spotlight, Duvall wore a Ralph Lauren sportcoat, black pants and a black polo shirt. “My wife loves Ralph Lauren,” Duvall said. “She’s very good at style. She’s jealous of him.” Left to his own devices, the Oscar winner prefers jeans and “kind of gaucho” boots that he buys when he’s in Argentina. “When I get boots made it never works,” Duvall said, “so I just take something off the shelf that works better.”

Spacek also took a sartorial cue from a family member, borrowing her daughter’s jeans for the affair. “They’re Urban Outfitters, strictly out of her closet,” Spacek said. “She brought them to me and said, ‘Mom, you’ve got to wear these.” Spacek, also an Oscar winner and nominated for an Emmy for her guest role on “Big Love,” paired them with kitten heel, black satin J.Crew sandals and a black jacket from Joan + David. “I’ve had it for 30 years,” she said. “It finally came back. If you wait long enough, it all does.”
