MUSING ON MUSES: A bevy of editors, designers and models — including Anna Wintour, Christopher Kane and Coco Rocha — turned up at the cocktail party hosted by W magazine Friday night to celebrate Craig McDean’s new book “Amber, Guinevere and Kate photographed by Craig McDean 1993-2005.” It is published by Rizzoli.
“The book is [about] the time when I first started my career, and there were three girls whom I photographed more than anything else [Amber Valletta, Guinevere van Seenus and Kate Moss]. I did the book from 1993 to 2005, and I stopped the book when I had digital photography. There is a period of time I spent with such wonderful people, like Marc Ascoli, M/M. It was a different way of working. I wanted to focus on these three girls. They were so giving in their way,” Craig McDean told WWD.
He added: “It’s the first fashion book I ever published. I swore I would never publish a fashion book, but I did.”
Karlie Kloss, another of the British photographer’s muses, dressed head to toe in Alaïa, remembered one shoot for American Vogue’s August issue with Daft Punk.
“They don’t usually film anyone when they look like they have their helmets on,” she explained. “It was so cool because Craig and I are really big Daft Punk fans. It was a really special shoot.”
Meanwhile, Leigh Lezark was DJing at the party in the rooms of 1728, a restaurant located in the Hôtel Mazin La Fayette that’s filled with paintings and sculptures.
“It’s is an old setting with a young crowd,” W editor in chief Stefano Tonchi told Peter Dundas.
