“It’s full circle.” Zac Posen mused to WWD, taking a break from his hosting duties on Wednesday night. The designer was in the balmy courtyard of Laduree in Soho, surrounded by friends for a dinner celebrating his collaboration with Ecco Domani Wines. Many years ago, the wine maker sponsored Posen’s very first show – full circle indeed. “That really enabled me to do my first show, their sponsorship. So then about two years ago, when Ecco Domani came to us and asked if I would be interested in doing their bottle design, I said ‘of course.'”
In honor of their twentieth anniversary, the wine company tapped Posen to create a special, limited-edition commemorative design to package their Italian Pinot Grigio. The design drew from Posen’s fall 2016 collection, also playing on the the wine’s floral notes.
“I’m in the process of writing my cookbook so obviously wine and food go together in cooking and to enjoy eating. I watched, in middle school, a lot of cooking TV programs. Food Network and Cooking TV weren’t there but I watched a lot of [shows],” Posen said. “Growing up and being dyslexic, visual books and cookbooks were very enticing for me.”
The intimate supper drew Posen’s close friends including actress – and self-proclaimed wine enthusiast – Morena Baccarin. “There’s a region in Sonoma: Dry Creek Valley and I’m obsessed with all their wines.” she revealed. “ [Zac’s design] is really bubbly and fresh, like good wine!”
