Those looking for Tony and his law-bending family would have been sorely disappointed Tuesday evening at the opening reception for Francesco Clemente’s “The Sopranos” at Lincoln Center’s GalleryMet.
Instead, attendees like Mercedes Bass, Zac Posen, John Currin, Rachel Feinstein, Fran Lebowitz, Paz de la Huerta and Sante D’Orazio were treated to a selection of portraits of famous opera singers including Renee Fleming and Anna Netrebko.
“They were the most beautiful artists,” raved Clemente of his subjects.
While the artist grew up listening to opera, co-host Lubov Azria was a newcomer to the field.
“I don’t know it, but I hope to,” she said. “I was trained as a classical ballerina so I know a lot about classical music.”
