Only in Los Angeles does the opening of a children’s clothing store bring out celebrities, but that’s what happened on Monday night when Jenny Belushi (wife of Jim) and Heather Whitney threw a party to celebrate their new shop, Poppy.
So while Crystal Lourd, Gwen McCaw and Ryan Haddon snacked on cookies and lemonade, Reese Witherspoon traded tot fashion tips with Cindy Crawford.

“Kaia likes things with a bohemian look,” said Crawford, who picked out a blue peasant blouse for her daughter.
“I got Ava the same one in yellow,” said Witherspoon. “She loves to layer.”
Meanwhile, Jim Belushi, with daughter Jamie in tow, took credit for his contribution to the Brentwood boutique. “I dressed myself,” he said. “But my wife made sure my daughter looked cute. Cute is a big word around here. It’s all, ‘That’s cute! Oh my gosh, so cute!’ I said, ‘Why don’t you name the store Cute?’ and she said, ‘That’s not cute.'”
The next night, New Yorkers were reveling in the spring weather, but guests at the Cinema Society and Nicole Miller-sponsored screening of “The Life Before Her Eyes” were watching a movie about a school shooting.
At the Soho Grand after party, Evan Rachel Wood, who stars with Uma Thurman in the film, said she’s always idolized her colleague. “I pretended to be her when I was little. What girl didn’t play ‘Pulp Fiction’?” (Incidentally, Wood’s eerie resemblance to Dita Von Teese, the ex of her current flame, Marilyn Manson, caused chatter.)
For her part, Thurman seemed sick of the step-and-repeat routine she has done since her bad-girl turn in the Quentin Tarantino film. “I have no idea what I’m wearing,” the actress said, while autographing a stack of her headshots. “Go ask my stylist.”
Earlier that day, Joy Bryant stopped by to say hello to Margherita Missoni, who was hosting a low-key tea at Bergdorf Goodman for her family’s fall collection. Despite preparing to host the New Yorkers for Children gala the next night, Missoni was nonchalant about her busy social schedule. “It’s time efficient,” she said of her back-to-back events.
