The pre-Oscar parties this season have been chock-a-block with pretty young starlets—some nominated for their recent performances on screen, others more famous for their performances on a red carpet. Harvey Keitel, Robin Wright, Mike and Irena Medavoy, Julie Delpy and Marisa Tomei trooped into the West Hollywood restaurant to pay respects to the producer-director-manager. “Charlie’s a friend of my wife Lisa, and I get to tag along,” said Dustin Hoffman.
Of course there were plenty of pretty young starlets, just to be safe, including Zoe Kravitz, Olivia Thirlby, Diane Kruger, Emma Roberts, Camilla Belle and Lily Collins. “It’s been a dream of mine to be invited to the Chanel pre-Oscar party,” Collins gushed, perhaps unaware this was only the second one to occur.
Over artichoke salad and branzino, guests relived Oscar fashion moments. Cher’s Bob Mackie, Celine Dion’s reverse white tuxedo and Bjork’s swan immediately came to mind. “I wish people [these days] would take more risks,” said Minnie Driver. But don’t count on her to be the one to lead the charge. Going to the Oscars? “I’d rather do jury duty in Riverside wearing a wet wool suit.”
