It was the social wedding of the season in Paris when Victoire de Castellane tied the knot with Paul-Emmanuel Reiffers at the church in Les Invalides on Saturday.
And de Castellane had the wedding dress — an embroidered coatdress for the church service that she took off in the evening, revealing the shortest va-va-va-voom bustle dress that accentuated her 18-inch waist.
“You really can put your hands around her,” said Claudia Schiffer. The outfit was designed by de Castellane’s uncle, Gilles Dufour, Karl Lagerfeld’s right-hand man. “I feel like Tinkerbell,” admitted the bride, telling guests that the three feathers in her hair were an homage to Prince Charles.
The elaborate dinner in the Ritz was followed by a wild party in the hotel’s nightclub. Guests, including Lagerfeld, Catherine Deneuve, Guy de Rothschild, Jean-Marie Rossi, Jacques Grange and Pierre Passebon either danced or watched a galaxy of entertainers, including belly dancers and magicians.
Victoire’s sisters and friends presented a musical spectacle that involved all the women wearing Victoire-like wigs and crimson Wonderbras. The party didn’t die down until 7 a.m., when the Marquis de Castellane, Victoire’s father, took the remaining revelers to La Calavados, where they continued to dance or consume large plates of pasta.
Monday morning, de Castellane was back working at Chanel. The honeymoon to St. Bart’s will have to wait until after the cruise collection is finished.
In New York, it was Chanel’s fall collection that drew nearly 900 ladies to a tent in Lincoln Center Monday for a luncheon and fashion show benefiting the New York Hospital/Cornell Medical Center Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Attendees included Carroll Petrie, Nan Kempner, Barbara de Kwiatkowski and Carolina Herrera. Pop star Mariah Carey showed up, too, in a midriff-baring short pink suit from Chanel’s spring collection. Carey, it turns out, has been a longtime fan of Chanel, if not a longtime customer.
“I’ve only recently been able to afford it,” she said, while petting Ginger, her Yorkshire terrier.
