Forget the horse races. Stylish Parisians turned up at Chantilly’s old-fashioned racetrack just outside Paris last week with just one thing on their minds: hats. Hermes’s 13th annual Prix de Diane was one big Mad Hatter’s tea party, a whimsical parade of pastel-suited women sporting an eye-popping array of chapeaus.
Picnicking packs, including Aga Khan, Bernadette Chirac and model Katy Tastet, lunched in the sun under jumbo brims that were crowned with gardens of flowers, feathers, bows and tulle. Hatmaker supreme Philippe Model and his sister Laurence — decked out in the event’s Mexican theme — reveled in the company of the milliner’s funky creations. Those, he noted, were easily spotted on “classy people — those who don’t fool around.”
