Charlize Theron hosted 150 guests at the fete Dior and Vogue threw on Tuesday night to celebrate the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Program, which the South African actress founded in 2007.
Theron’s pals Jeremy Renner, Sharlito Copley, Paula Wagner, Marley Shelton and Ty Pennington came out to Soho House for a seated dinner and a heartfelt speech from the actress, who talked about mobile HIV-prevention programs for underprivileged youths and the difference they make in teen’s lives. “I wish I had a joke to tell, now that I’ve brought you all down,” she said, “But I got nothing. I might just have to take off my dress.”
It didn’t come to that, since the crowd got revved up by a performance from Overtones, a South African male a cappella group discovered by Clint Eastwood while he was making the film “Invictus” (they lent their voices to the movie’s soundtrack and are now managed by Eastwood’s wife Dina). In addition to native songs, the group performed a rendition of Timbaland’s “The Way I Are.”
