Unlike many Hollywood actresses, risk-taker Jennifer Connelly isn’t afraid to use a red-carpet appearance as an opportunity to experiment with new designers and silhouettes. In her latest incarnation as co-host of a screening of Luis Manzoni’s “Innocent Voices” (considered to be a contender for a foreign film Oscar nomination) at the United Nations Thursday night, Connelly pushed the style envelope in a navy cotton smock blouse and a purple silk taffeta, high-waisted, draped “saloon” cigarette skirt from Vera Wang’s spring 2006 collection. True, the midcalf hemline and puff-shouldered top might not be everyone’s sartorial cup of tea. But when tastefully accessorized, as Connelly did with a black satin clutch, Louis Vuitton peep-toe slingbacks and her own delicate jewelry, the look proved to be both elegant and fashion-forward.
