In her latest role as Jude in Doug Roos‘ indie pleaser, “Happy Endings,” Maggie Gyllenhaal moves seamlessly from deflowering a closeted gay teenager to seducing his older widowed father. The actress was equally beguiling at the Reader’s Digest party celebrating its 100th issue in New York last Thursday, where, despite the strong July heat, she offered a whisper of early autumn in a silvery, silk satin crepe sheath with a ruched, ruffled neckline from Nina Ricci’s fall 2005 collection. Strappy pearl Chanel sandals provided the requisite summer touch, while an extralong strand of amber beads by Ten Thousand Things lent an earthy note, as Gyllenhaal joined fellow guests such as Alicia Keys and Christian Slater, even taking a turn at the DJ station. Happy endings, indeed.
