If you think holding your own in a film with Bill Murray is tough, try standing out at the star-studded party at Cabana after the premiere. Actress Pell James succeeded on both counts as she glided from the “Broken Flowers” screening last Wednesday night to the Martime Hotel with nary a hair out of place despite the rain. Though she plays a rural flower-shop girl in the Jim Jarmusch film, James was the picture of urban sophistication in a figure-hugging, midnight blue wool Roland Mouret dress, metallic pumps and Diane von Furstenberg by H. Stern gold, rock crystal and diamond earrings. As Jarmusch and co-stars Murray, Jessica Lange, Jeffrey Wright, Heather Alicia Simms and Mark Webber mingled with guests such as Rufus Wainwright, Sofia Coppola, Sarah Paulson, Vivienne Tam, Taye Diggs, Ethan Hawke, Zoe Saldana, John Cameron Mitchell, David and Sybil Yurman and Ingrid Sischy and Sandy Brandt (David Yurman and Interview Magazine cosponsored the event), James hung out in a corner nook with friends. She soon emerged, however, to make the requisite rounds. Dark corners, after all, are no place for a budding starlet.
