ROGER AND OUT: Roger Vivier celebrated its central role in Catherine Deneuve’s latest movie with a cocktail gathering and screening Monday evening at the Cinéma du Panthéon movie theater on Paris’ Left Bank, which houses a bar and restaurant designed by the French actress. Deneuve, who plays the lead in Christophe Honoré’s “Beloved,” was a last-minute no-show, but her ties with Vivier date back to when she wore the brand’s pumps in the 1967 classic “Belle de Jour.” In the new film, the shoes feature in an extended opening scene set in a Vivier store in the Sixties. “For us, it was miraculous. It looks like we produced it,” said brand ambassador Inès de la Fressange.

Noticing that her burgundy velvet pantsuit matched the one worn by Jean-Luce Huré, de la Fressange gamely posed with the veteran fashion and society photographer before flinging herself lengthwise on a sofa for more shots. Her daughter, Nine d’Urso, was more camera shy, pleading with snappers to leave her alone. “People are stopping me in the street,” said the 17-year-old, who appears in ads for Bottega Veneta’s new fragrance.

Also present were vintage specialist Didier Ludot, director and screenwriter Danièle Thompson, documentary maker Loïc Prigent and interior designers Vincent Darré and India Mahdavi. The latter plans to open a home furnishings store near her showroom in the 7th arrondissement of Paris in November, and is also working with restaurateur Thierry Costes on his Café Français, due to open on Place de la Bastille next year.

Ludivine Sagnier, who plays the younger version of Deneuve’s character in “Beloved,” said she had been pondering the film’s central question: Whether it is better to love or be loved. “I have to admit I didn’t come up with an obvious answer, because I’m only 32, but I talked about it a lot with Catherine Deneuve, and she told me: ‘Believe me, it is better to love,’” she said.
