With Sunday’s Golden Globes red carpet and after parties called off, the events that did take place over the weekend bore an added weight. On Thursday, at the Diamond Information Center and In Style’s seventh annual red-carpet jewelry luncheon at the Beverly Hills Hotel, emcee Hal Rubenstein beseeched celebrities to salvage the awards season by turning up the fashion volume at the upcoming Screen Actors Guild awards. “You better dress up like it’s the last ball at the Apocalypse,” he warned Sharon Stone, Angie Harmon, Debra Messing, Kristen Bell, Maria Bello and Anna Friel.
The next night, Harmon, along with co-host Jamie Tisch, helped Tamara Mellon celebrate the opening of Jimmy Choo’s first Rodeo Drive boutique. “This is amazing,” Mellon said of the throng. “I wish there could be this many people here every day.” In fact, so many eager partygoers showed up that Mellon pals Vanessa Getty, Crystal Lourd and Elizabeth Wiatt stood outside with their noses practically pressed against the glass door as Jimmy Choo ceo Joshua Schulman monitored the number of bodies out in order to let more in. “Maybe I should leave so Rachel Zoe can get in,” said Cameron Silver, glancing at the mob outside. Those who did make it inside did so because either they arrived early (Lauren Conrad) or carried more clout (Harvey Weinstein).

There was a bit more breathing room the next night at the Art of Elysium gala downtown at St. Vibiana’s cathedral, where a black-tie event and fashion show — sponsored by Vogue, Cartier and Ford — took place in the enormous courtyard. “It is nice to get dressed up this weekend for something,” said Rachel Bilson, who minded the train of her white Dior gown. The event, chaired by Balthazar and Rosetta Getty, drew cast members of Balthazar Getty’s show “Brothers & Sisters” (Calista Flockhart and Sally Field), Ashley Olsen, Camilla Belle, Rumer Willis, Courteney Cox Arquette plus a few in-laws (Patricia and Rosanna), and a few more Gettys (Vanessa, Billy, Jacqui, Peter and Anna). After the candlelit dinner, the crowd, led by Kate Walsh, kicked up its heels to a rousing performance by South American guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela. How to top that? “Next year Baz Luhrmann is doing the production,” whispered Rosetta Getty.
