“It was very melodramatic wasn’t it?” said Daphne Guinness, after the curtain fell on Ibsen’s “The Lady from the Sea,” Tuesday evening. The play, which stars Natasha Richardson as the mad Ellida, whose first lover comes back from the past to woo her, marked the opening of the newly refurbished Almeida Theatre in London.
The play was followed by a party at the Victoria Miro gallery, where sponsor Giorgio Armani dressed guests including Richardson, Liam Neeson, Joseph Fiennes, Emilia Fox, Jessica de Rothschild, who chaired the event, Yasmin Le Bon and Lady Helen Taylor. Other guests included Avery Agnelli, David de Rothschild and his stunning date Lucy Kemp, Cosima Pavoncelli, Brooke de Ocampo and Ashley and Allegra Hicks.
