Chanel is taking no chances. Even though Karl Lagerfeld apologized to Muslims for his inadvertent use of passages from the Koran on some dresses in his spring couture collection, Chanel has hired a bodyguard for Claudia Schiffer, since she was one of the models who walked the runway in the offending numbers. The dresses, which incited Muslim clerics to call for a boycott of the house and threaten to file a complaint with the German government, have been destroyed, as have negatives of Chanel’s photographs of the dresses.
Helene Winer and Janelle Reiring of Metro Pictures in SoHo, and collector and dealer Rachele Lehmann, who’s moving in across from their Greene Street gallery, are going into business together. The three will open a gallery in May in East Hampton on Montauk Highway, right next to Jerry Della Femmina’s Red Horse Market.
