CHRISTMAS BABY: Connecticut, not downtown Manhattan, was the place to party over the weekend. Harvey Weinstein wed Georgina Chapman on Saturday night, and the previous evening in nearby New Canaan, Helena Christensen celebrated her 39th birthday at the estate of advertising darlings Rocco Laspata and Charles DeCaro. Since her birthday falls on Christmas Day, the model typically spends the day with her 90-year-old grandmother in Denmark. But this year she decided to start the festivities early by inviting pals including Josh Hartnett, Natalia Vodianova, Justin Portman, musician Paul Banks of Interpol, Eugenia Silva and Michael Stipe to her friends’ not-so-humble abode.
Serge Normant, Lisa Airan and Trevor Born, Alex Lindquist and Ali Hewson lounged in a giant tent draped in billows of white fabric and decorated with hundreds of calla lilies and glass lanterns. Magician Mark Mitton wandered through the crowd, performing card tricks and doing sleight of hand with guests’ jewelry. The music was Ella Fitzgerald, until guests started DJing using their own iPods. “This is the most wonderful gift I could ever receive,” said Christensen, who ended the evening deep in conversation with Hartnett, Portman and Vodianova.
