WALKING THE WALK: Manhattan has lost several of its senior walkers and men-about-town in recent years, but Alex Hitz, a Gatsby-esque young man from Atlanta, has stepped in to fill the void. Hitz invited 50 uptown swells to Valdino West, a storefront restaurant in the West Village, for dinner in honor of his 34th birthday. The event also feted other, slightly older, Aquarians in the house, including Adolfo and Liz Smith. “I’m like Dracula,” said Smith in a toast, “I need new blood. So, thank God for Alex.”
Other guests included Lee Radziwill, Carolina and Reinaldo Herrera, Louise Grunwald, Casey Ribicoff, Doug Cramer, Bobby Short, Pierre Durand and Peter Bacanovic, who spent much of the evening snapping pictures with his digital camera.
