GLOBE TROTTERS: “Around the World in One Night” was the theme of the summer fund-raising gala at London’s Royal Academy last week, but the only two countries with any appeal were England and Croatia, which were dueling one another in the Euro 2004 Championship. “I’ve been looking at the artwork all night,” lied Jessica de Rothschild, who was glued to the plasma screen, along with Ashley and Allegra Hicks and David Tang, who cohosted the event. De Rothschild’s contribution to the atmosphere was strictly sartorial. “It’s global fashion,” she said of her white Converse high-tops and Alexander McQueen skirt. There to cheer on England — which beat Croatia 4-2 before then being knocked out of the tournament by Portugal a few days later — were such guests as Bryan Ferry, the newly divorced Jemima Khan, Audrey and Martin Gruss, Nina Campbell, Rita Konig, Anya Hindmarch, Theo Fennell and Dora della Gherardesca. Tommy Hilfiger, in town with Beyoncé Knowles and his daughter, Ally, poked his head in before rushing off to a dinner at Eight Over Eight to mark the launch of his fragrance, True Star.
