HOLIDAY CHEER: Just the thought of decorating their own homes for the holidays — or finding the right decorator to do it for them — is enough to exhaust many of Park Avenue’s poshest ladies. But clearly that isn’t challenge enough for some: The members of the Society of the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center are taking on the task of decking all the halls of the hospital this season.
“A threadbare tree doesn’t cheer you up,” committee chairwoman Jamee Gregory says. “But if you go into a hospital and see that they really cared about decorating it, you feel that they’re going to put the same love and care into the way they treat you.”
Indeed, the center hasn’t spruced up its holiday decorations in 12 years, so Gregory enlisted Bill Tansey to source trees, wreaths and lights from all over the city.
To celebrate the project, Gregory, Janna Bullock and Muffie Potter Aston are hosting a cocktail party Monday evening at Bullock’s Upper East Side home. There, floral arrangements by Belle Fleur in vases embellished by designers including Carolina Herrera and Tory Burch will be sold in a silent auction. The florist also will donate a selection from its new scented candle line, with proceeds going directly to the organization.
The committee also has commissioned a special T-shirt by Steven Stolman. At $125 a pop, the red tops with Swarovski crystal stars aren’t exactly stocking-stuffer fare, but Gregory says selling them hasn’t been a problem. “I wore it to lunch at Swifty’s today and I got an order,” she laughs.
