KHAN’S D-DAY: The nine-year marriage of Jemima and Imran Khan is over. “I sadly announce that Jemima and I are divorced,” said the former Pakistan cricketer Imran this week in a statement issued by his Justice Movement party from Islamabad. “This was a mutual decision and is clearly very sad for both of us. My home and my future are in Pakistan. Whilst Jemima tried her best to settle here, my political life made it difficult for her to adapt to life in Pakistan.” The couple formally divorced a few days ago in England. Last year, the former Jemima Goldsmith, daughter of the late Sir James and Annabel Goldsmith, dismissed reports that her marriage was in trouble. Jemima, who converted from Judaism to Islam and brought up their two sons as Muslims, married the playboy Imran in 1995 — first in Paris and then in an Islamic ceremony in Lahore. Their wedding created endless speculation as to how long the marriage would last given their different backgrounds. Jemima, who at one time had a fashion line produced in Pakistan, now lives in London with their sons.
