The fashion flock is finding its way back to the Meatpacking District. Diane von Furstenberg and Francisco Costa have already hosted affairs at the High Line, and on Monday, the new Standard Hotel fires up its eatery The Standard Grill.
With its old-school decor and sophisticated fare, the restaurant is a departure from the sleek, sometimes kitschy aesthetic associated with the brand, which includes properties in Miami and Los Angeles.

Chef Dan Silverman, of the recently shuttered Lever House, designed his New American cuisine to go along with that. “The restaurant looks like it’s been here, it has bones,” says Silverman, who had undergone tastings with owner André Balazs for a year. “The idea was that the food should marry that aesthetic while still being light and fresh.” The result is a daily-changing menu, which includes charcuterie, oysters, foie gras and house-made terrines in the bar area, and dishes like haricot verts with yogurt, cinnamon and crispy shallots and grilled North Carolina trout in the dining room.
For now, the space serves dinner only, but a beer garden will open later this summer, followed by breakfast, lunch and late-night service.
