The Armory Show had its official kickoff last Thursday night hosted by MoMA, but Nicolas Berggruen unofficially ushered in the art fair the previous night, throwing a cocktail party at APT in honor of Alannah Weston and “The Family,” her upcoming photography exhibition at the Gallery at Windsor. There to celebrate were Tina Barney, Louise MacBain, Fabien Baron, Jacqueline Schnabel, Ghislaine Maxwell, Thaddeus Ropac and Miranda Brooks.
But Weston was clearly the belle of the ball. “Can I have your autograph?” a fellow guest beseeched her, thrusting the exhibition’s catalog in front of her. Weston complied before relaying her whirlwind schedule for the remainder of her art-centric trip, which included stops at the Armory, Gagosian Gallery, Dia and Jeffrey Deitch.

Galen Weston, Alannah’s father, insisted he wouldn’t be keeping any such art-hunting schedule. “Alannah is the nose,” he declared. “And her mother isn’t far behind her.”
Many of the same crowd also turned up at the Armory Show. Hilary Weston hobnobbed with Marie-Josée Kravis, while her husband, Henry, exchanged cards with a dealer over a Carroll Dunham painting. Yvonne Force and her husband, Leo Villareal, made friends with one of Takashi Murakami’s saucer-eyed characters. But after traversing two piers and taking in 175 galleries, some guests couldn’t help but complain that the party was work.
“You need a golf cart just to get around,” growled an observer.
