After a week of back to back events, peripatetic charity goers showed up in droves for the annual New Yorkers for Children’s New Years in April: A Fool’s Fete, co-sponsored by Emanuel Ungaro at the Mandarin Oriental Ballroom.
“Everyone’s so friendly. I thought New Yorkers would be a bit harsher,” remarked Ungaro designer Peter Dundas as he surveyed the scene of colorfully bedecked ladies like Dayssi Olarte de Kanavos, Lauren Davis, Helen Schifter, Nina Griscom, Alex Kramer, Valesca Guerrand-Hermès and Jennifer Creel.
After dinner, many hit the dancefloor and the bar was so overwhelmed by thirsty guests that Margherita Missoni and a friend took it upon themselves to climb behind it and pour their own drinks. When chided by the bartender, Missoni cheekily replied with a smile, “I was just helping you out.”
