Jenni Kayne, the quintessential Beverly Hills girl, now has another place to call home — her first retail store in West Hollywood. “It’s been my dream for a long time,” she said at Friday night’s preopening dinner. Friends like Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Mia Kirshner, Alison Lohman, Jason Bateman and Anthony Kiedis sat at two long tables in the middle of the store and grazed on catering from Ammo. Anna Getty also took the opportunity to browse for new clothes. “Why not shop and eat at the same time?” she asked.
Meanwhile, Jessica Seinfeld returned to her “second home,” Barneys New York in Beverly Hills, to celebrate the launch of her book, “Deceptively Delicious: Simple Secrets to Get Your Kids Eating Good Food.” “Barneys is my touchstone. My grandfather shopped here, so it’s like part of my heritage,” the Jean Paul Gaultier-clad mother of three said. Do her kids share her love of fashion? “My sons wear my shoes. My baby [two-year-old Shepherd] loves my bright red patent Balenciaga heels.”
What her kids aren’t crazy about are her healthy eating habits. “My daughter convinced her little brothers not to eat vegetables, and so I had to come up with a better way,” Seinfeld explained of her controversial cookbook, which some observers claim bears a distinct resemblance to rival author Missy Chase Lapine’s “The Sneaky Chef.”
Guests sampled some of the recipes in the book, including grilled cheese made with butternut squash and chocolate chip cookies made from chick peas.
“I eat all of this,” Jessica’s hubby Jerry said. “I mean, who do you think was the guinea pig?”
The best part about the secretly healthy food? “You don’t feel gross after,” said Jerry. Although host Elizabeth Wiatt admitted that after eating 17 grilled cheeses, “I feel slightly gross. I think you’re supposed to stop after four!”
