Sequinned tutus and pink ballet slippers frozen in blocks of ice greeted guests at the opening gala of San Francisco Ballet’s New Works Festival last night at the San Francisco Opera House. The ultra-modern decor, with an entrance resembling giant ice cubes, paid homage to the evening’s program, which featured all-new modern choreography.

‘I’ve seen some cool ballets but this is the first time I’ve seen tutus in ice,” remarked Tatiana Sorokko, aflutter in a feathered cape by Ralph Rucci.

Also pirouetting through the opera house were Sako Fisher, Jean Larette, OJ Shansby, Maria Manetti Farrow, Marissa Mayer, Yurie Pascarella, Joy Bianchi, and Dede Wilsey.
