Haven’t seen Carla Bruni on the runway lately? Well, she’s been busy in the recording studio. The Italian model launched her first solo album, “Quelqu’un m’a dit,” or “Someone Told Me,” (Naïve) in France this week. It’s an enchanting effort, featuring Bruni singing and strumming the acoustic guitar in a style that’s French chanson-meets-American country and blues.
But after all of those years strutting the catwalks, fashion is still in the 35-year-old beauty’s heart.
“Love, it’s not like a Saint Laurent/ It doesn’t fit perfectly,” Bruni sings in a seductive, raspy voice on “L’Amour,” one of the 11 French-language songs she composed. She also gives a listless rendition of an obscure Serge Gainsbourg tune, “La Noyé,” or “The Drowned Girl.”
Last year, Bruni wrote six songs for French crooner Julien Clerc, and she is said to have an English album in the works. After all, Bruni’s genes carry not only knock-out good looks, but talent, too: Her late father composed experimental 12-tone music and her mother is a concert pianist.
