There probably isn’t a fashion photographer alive who isn’t enamored with the 1966 thriller “Blowup,” which centers around a lensman played by David Hemmings and a murder plot involving Veruschka and Vanessa Redgrave. Tonight, for the first time, photographs from Michelangelo Antonioni’s iconic film will be on display at the Headquarters gallery in Hollywood.
Curated by collector Davis Wills and his partner, Matthew Eccerlot, the 60-image exhibition, which runs through April 2, is culled from a private collection of 700 negatives, and includes experimental photos, candids and promotional shots from the film. But the show has its own share of mystery — the identity of the photographer remains unknown.
“We don’t know if it was a production crew member or a friend, but we are hoping he comes forward,” says Wills. Veruschka, herself, will attend tonight’s opening, during which filmmaker Paul Morrissey will be shooting a documentary about her life.
Talk about coming full circle.
