The typically fashion-heavy crowd at the Standard Grill got a dose of royalty Friday night when Princess Marie-Chantal and Prince Pavlos of Greece took over a long banquette for an intimate dinner hosted in their honor by longtime friends Helen and Tim Schifter. In town for a long weekend before heading to Harbour Island for the holidays, the pair were joined by a dozen or so guests including artist Will Cotton, Adam and Amalia Lindemann, Chiara Clemente, Sotheby’s Tobias Meyer, Jacqueline Schnabel and Ghislaine Maxwell. Silver glitter, painted pinecones and vintage wind-up Santa dolls dotted the table and each diner had a giant artisanal candy cane as a place setting.
“When Marie-Chantal and Pavlos are in town, we often throw them a dinner so they can see friends,” explained Helen Schifter a few days later (the previous one was last spring at the Monkey Bar). “We’ve had fashion and social friends in the past. Amalia and Adam missed the last one, so this ended up with an artsy vibe.”
Marie-Chantal entertained the company with photos of her new French bulldogs, while Cotton showed off his portraits of her and Tom Ford. Naturally this being the season for travel, destination plans were traded: Schnabel and Maxwell are headed to St. Barth’s; Clemente will be in Los Angeles, and the Schifters will be off to Mustique.
After the meal, everyone moved to the hotel’s 18th floor nightclub for Champagne and dessert.
