Other designers may have given up on that one-time wardrobe staple. Not Carolina Herrera.

“I just love the gray three-piece suit,” she said on Tuesday afternoon, dressed in a white version of the same. “It’s very chic.”

But most of the women who turned up for Herrera’s lunch to benefit Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center — including Tory Burch, Gigi Mortimer, Jennifer Creel, Mary-Louise Parker and Emilia Fanjul (Jr. and Sr.) — are just as likely to wear a sexy little dress to lunch.

“Well, when you’re young and pretty, you can get away with anything,” said Herrera.

At a nearby table, another designer, Alexandra Lind, was taking a poll. Should she name her new dress line Alex Rose (her married name) or change the name of her signature collection to Alexandra Lind Rose? Maybe the new line should just be called Alex?

“Why don’t you just call it A. Rose?” asked Fernanda Niven.

A. Rose by any other name would sell as sweet.”
