Queen Elizabeth II, having a little holiday at her estate in Sandringham, surrounded by her family at dinner, stood up to make a point and her young footman, thinking she was going to leave the table, pulled her chair out from under her. The monarch landed on the floor, but luckily her two adored corgis cushioned her fall. (The dogs sit under the queen’s chairs during meals because she feeds them dainty morsels from the table.) Will the corgis be receiving Orders of the British Empire for their bravery? Maybe. Will the footman get to keep his head? Oh yes.

Emanuel Ungaro was awarded the Legion d’Honneur with a title of Chevalier, the most prestigious honor in France. He joins Cristobal Balenciaga, Alix Gres and Christian Lacroix, who have all received the same honor. Balenciaga and Madame Gres have gone on ahead, but Lacroix is more wonderfully creative than ever. Ungaro himself worked for Balenciaga for six years at the beginning of his career until starting his own house in 1965. He learned to sew at a very early age, luckily for some of the best-dressed women everywhere.

The buzz: Uma Thurman and John Travolta are so hot in “Be Cool,” the sequel to the comedy smash “Get Shorty,” they steam up the screen. The saucy pair — who lit up the dance floor in “Pulp Fiction” — do it again in the new flick due in March, with Travolta again playing Chili Palmer, the wise guy who in “Be Cool” brings his smarts to the music industry as Thurman’s business partner at an indie record label. New grandpa rocker Steven Tyler plays himself in the movie, lips and all.
