NEW YORK — “This dress is so heavy I feel like I’m getting a workout just wearing it,” sighed Lindsay Lohan of her silver beaded Ralph Lauren Collection dress as she primped in her vast Meatpacking District hotel suite before tripping off to the Polo Ralph Lauren and Men’s Vogue dinner at Pastis. Room service trays littered the hallway, music blared and an entourage of publicists, stylists and the requisite hangers-on milled about Lohan’s digs as the starlet put the finishing touches on her outfit.

Talk turned to her weekend plans, which were still up in the air. Lohan was slated to fly to the VMAs (weather permitting); if not, then it was off to the Hamptons for the Yele Haiti benefit hosted by Meryl Streep and Angelina Jolie (the Hamptons won out in the end). “I’m obsessed with her,” squealed Lohan of Jolie. “I just saw an interview with her where she said her favorite word was ‘raw,’ and I was so excited because it’s my favorite word, too.” Then Lohan was off to the dinner and auction, which were in aid of the charity Best Buddies.

Once inside, the scene at Pastis was electric. This was one fashion party with a high hunk quotient. Indeed, the crowd was thick with professional tennis players, hip-hop heavies, socialite husbands and beaus and one very smoldering polo player, Nacho Figueras.

That kept the bevy of high-profile beauties such as Gwen Stefani, Lauren Bush, Rosamund Pike, Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, Sophie Dahl, Lauren duPont and Amanda Brooks fully engaged all evening.

The dress code called for “casually chic attire,” which drew looks from piqué tennis shirts to full-length gowns. Stefani wowed in a dress of her own design for her L.A.M.B. label and a Ralph Lauren “Voyager” handbag that had Lohan trilling to her stylist, Rachel Zoe, “I want that bag! I want that bag right now!”

Jay-Z pronounced himself a “Purple Label Pimp.” Usher, too, donned Ralph Lauren’s priciest line, but Gavin Rossdale opted for the more downtown Black Label.

“I take more and more chances with my outfits now that I’m going to these events,” said Roger Federer in a printed Prada shirt and sleek black suit, who hosted the event along with Jay Fielden, David Lauren and Anthony Shriver.

Some of the ladies were clearly inspired by the evening’s athletic bent. Lisa Airan sported Azzedine Alaïa’s version of a tennis dress. “I wasn’t quite sure what ‘casually chic attire’ meant,” said Airan, gesturing with a smile to her pricy frock. Restoin-Roitfeld chose short shorts, while Dylan Lauren figured in with tennis whites in the form of a simple gown.

Fashion aside, love took center court.

“I’m on a date with my husband, so I’m happy,” said Stefani, who’s just been reunited with her other half, Rossdale, recently back from touring with his new band, Institute. Bush and David Lauren were equally lovey dovey, having just returned from vacation in Africa.

But posing with Anna Wintour was clearly the highlight for both Stefani and Lohan. “Will you send that to me?” the singer-cum-designer sweetly asked a photographer who took a picture of her and Wintour.

After the dinner, the young and the young at heart made their way to Bungalow 8, where Lohan immediately took up residence at a corner banquette. As her friends crammed in around her, Figueras and his fiancée, Delfina Blaquier, wandered the palm tree-lined club, and Pike twirled in her Prada dress. Meanwhile, in between entertaining her boldfaced guests, owner Amy Sacco took it upon herself to do bathroom patrol, pounding on the doors if anyone dared take too long. And just when it looked like everyone was heading home, in came a mustachioed Liev Schreiber, who immediately revived the spirits of his flagging friends.
