When the naturally blonde Aussie dyed her fair locks, Melissa George quickly discovered that, in Hollywood, brunettes actually have more fun. “I’ve gotten more roles,” says George, 31. “When I walk into a room, people go, ‘This is what we’ve been looking for!’” With three films due this fall and a new HBO series premiering next spring, George seems poised for the big time.
BIG BREAK: When she was 16, George won a lead role in the long-running Australian series Home and Away, a breeding ground for actors Naomi Watts, Heath Ledger and Guy Pearce.
UP NEXT: The Music Within opposite Ron Livingston and Michael Sheen; Waz, a serial-killer tale with Stellan Skarsgård and Selma Blair, and 30 Days of Night, based on the graphic novel, in which she battles vampires with Josh Hartnett.
SPOUSE: Chilean writer-director-producer Claudio Dabed.
ROLLER GIRL: George began roller-skating competitively when she was seven, and was ranked number two in the world.
HOME BASE: The actress just bought an apartment in Buenos Aires in Eva Perón’s old neighborhood. “It’s like Europe, with cobblestones and culture. You can go tango dancing every night until the sun comes up.”
