What does $314,727 a month get you these days? It might seem a random amount, but according to the latest divorce papers filed earlier this month in Los Angeles, socialite-cum-fashion designer Jacqui Getty is seeking exactly that from her husband of nine years, Peter, grandson of J. Paul Getty. Although Mrs. Getty is known to lead a lower-key existence than the rest of her husband’s clan, low key clearly doesn’t translate to low cost. Getty specified she’d need more than $30,000 for clothing and accessories every month, plus more than $10,000 for jewelry, almost $7,500 for the lease and maintenance of two cars and $50,000 for her annual Halloween party. Trick, or treat?
WWD did a little research to dig out what that kind of money can buy. (Hint: It’s not love.)
Clothing and accessories: $33,697
A fixture at fashion shows and charity events, Getty leads a life that requires luxurious threads — she’s a fan of form-fitting and strong-shouldered designs from Givenchy and Yves Saint Laurent, towering heels from Brian Atwood and Hermès accessories. “I attended Oscar de la Renta, Balenciaga and Zac Posen shows, among others, where I purchased the newest and most fashionable clothes, always without regard to cost,” she stated in her divorce papers. “If I wanted something, even to just wear it for one event, I bought it. In fact, wearing the same couture outfit was sort of frowned on.”
Hermès Medor clutch, size 29, calfskin with gold hardware: $4,200
Givenchy striped knit blazer: $1,620
Brian Atwood Wagner rivet suede pumps: $1,485
Bottega Veneta white sheer oversize linen shirt: $690
Bottega Veneta white linen-blend double-breasted blazer with padded shoulders: $2,100
Bottega Veneta Knot clutch in satin Intrecciato: $1,180
Yves Saint Laurent platform sandal in woven leather: $895
Yves Saint Laurent taupe fine wool dress: $1,450
Yves Saint Laurent Besace medium flap bag: $1,895
Oscar de la Renta strapless tulle gown with graffiti chiffon embroidery: $7,950
Oscar de la Renta long sleeve silk organza sequin and pearl embroidered gown: $10,490
Car expenses: $7,495
No chauffeur for this Getty: Jacqui prefers to drive herself around town in her black Range Rover — with the exception of charity events with long valet lines and even shorter obligatory stays, where car service is ordered. Range Rovers are notoriously problematic cars, and relatively expensive to maintain compared to a Lexus or BMW. Her 23-year-old daughter Gia Coppola’s late model Volvo is likely no stranger to the auto shop either.
Lease-finance payment: $2,370
DMV registration: $135
Limo and taxis: $2,218
Violations and parking: $252
Gas, maintenance and repairs: $1,520
Though Getty’s not one for bling, her divorce papers suggest she’s looking to grow — or at the very least maintain — her bauble collection, which already includes several pieces by David Webb, a vintage diamond necklace worth more than $60,000 and a rare Bulgari watch valued at more than $30,000.
Jennifer Meyer 18-karat yellow gold and pavé diamond wishbone pendant: $2,325
Bulgari Parentesi cocktail ring in 18-karat pink gold with colored gemstone and pavé diamonds: $7,900
Annual Halloween party: $50,000
Getty’s Oct. 31 bash is pretty laid back by Hollywood standards. Preparation involves ordering pizzas, stocking the bar and clearing the living room for dancing. Getty barely even decorates her Whitley Heights manse. So why $50,000? First of all, she always hires a top-notch DJ. And second of all, pals like Leonardo DiCaprio, Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher and the Olsens aren’t going to park their cars themselves. You just can’t serve those folks any old candy.
Valet: Up to $5,000, with Crystal Valet.
Full-service bar: $10,000

Event planner to coordinate lighting, furniture, tableware rentals and decor: $15,000
DJ: Up to $25,000 for a Ronson sibling.
