LOS ANGELES — “I’ve come to this party as a winner and a loser — and it feels better as a winner,” Kiefer Sutherland told Emmy nominee (and loser) Oliver Platt at Fox’s after party Sunday night at Spago. Sutherland didn’t show up to the mellow, platinum-themed party until late (perhaps, as he promised on air, he was having dinner with his father, Donald) and held court in the same back booth as last year.
Also in attendance were Brian Grazer, Rebecca Gayheart, Denis Leary and Emily Deschanel, who ogled Wentworth Miller, saying, “I am going to get in trouble with my boyfriend.” Jaime Pressly changed out of her custom Badgley Mischka gown into a short Collette Dinnigan number because, “It’s an easier dress to party in. Trains and parties do not mix well.” Just one of the many dangers of the Emmys.
When Dolce & Gabbana-clad winner Jeremy Piven walked down the red carpet at the HBO party at Pacific Design Center, he declared all was “fantastic” except for a little cut on his chin. He got it earlier when trying to kiss his Emmy, but “impaled myself with it instead.” Once inside the pink tent, Piven felt no pain. He sipped pink Moët & Chandon bubbly and passed his trophy around.
“Entourage” co-star Debi Mazar smirked, “I don’t think it’s going to mean anything, except maybe Piven’s going to get a bigger trailer!”
But it was the Entertainment Tonight/People event at Sky Bar that was the first to reach capacity as guests eager to see Prince perform jammed into the Mondrian. Seal and Heidi Klum pushed their way to the front of the stage and proceeded to boogie like a pair of teenagers.
At TV Guide’s bash at Hollywood Social, Allison Janney, feasting on a chocolate dessert, gasped, “Did you see Geena Davis‘ necklace? It must have cost millions and millions of dollars.” But Samaire Armstrong sniffed, ‘I wasn’t really shocked at any of the dresses, but I liked Debra Messing‘s.”

The action in town wasn’t only on Sunday, though. A flurry of fetes had Hollywood hustling to and fro the entire weekend, beginning with The Gersh Agency’s buffet dinner at The Terrace, where Messing, Kyra Sedgwick and Blythe Danner, along with Brooke Davenport and Alexandra von Furstenberg, stopped by. The next night, it was on to Entertainment Weekly’s huge party at Republic, where Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson DJ’d while the twentysomething set like Jason Ritter and Sophia Bush nibbled on ice-cream cones. “When I saw Tim Gunn I was like, ‘Oh my god, it’s Tim!'” she giggled. “My friends were like, ‘Sophia, you’re embarrassing yourself.'”
