“Confessions of a first-time director — drink more!” advised George Clooney at the Los Angeles premiere of his directorial debut, “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind,” last Wednesday. Guests followed orders at the W Hotel after-party, dancing until the wee hours.
“Anyone who’s ever been captured on film dancing knows not to,” said Mira Sorvino, but seconds later, she bolted for the dance floor.

A few nights later, Liv Tyler shared her industry secret at the L.A. premiere of “The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.”
“I’ve never actually watched the movie the night of any of the premieres,” said Tyler, who’s been on the film’s worldwide press junket. “In Paris, I actually went home to my hotel room, took all my stuff off, put my pajamas on, packed, ate dinner, watched ‘Jackass’ on MTV. Then I got my corset back on and went to the party.”
Overseas, it was all about Chloé, which opened its first London boutique Thursday. Creative director Phoebe Philo’s parents, Celia and Richard, even dropped by.
“It’s not every day you go to your daughter’s shop opening,” said Mrs. Philo, sipping a Bellini.
Back in San Francisco, the Ladies Who Lunch made the most of their holiday wardrobes, heading to Bix for John Traina and Ken Rainin’s bash, and to the Clift Hotel the following week for Tatiana Sorokko’s lunch. Vanessa Getty opted for faux fur both days.
“It’s totally faux, by Helmut Lang,” said Getty, ever the animal-rescue activist. “I would never wear fur.”
Then Denise Hale swept in wearing a coat of Canadian lynx bellies.
“I hope Vanessa doesn’t see Denise’s coat,” said Ann Getty. “We’ll tell her its road kill.”
In New York, the weather was frigid Tuesday, but the lunch crowd at Le Cirque — including Marjorie Gubelmann, Tory Burch, Audrey Gruss and Pat Field — got a taste of Saint-Tropez when Julien MacDonald showed his spring collection, a parade of spangled, skintight minidresses.
“They’re expensive, but I’m sure you can all afford it,” announced MacDonald to the room. Ivana Trump’s eyes lit up at a solid gold zip-front jumpsuit.
“In case someone’s drunk, no one will miss you,” she joked.
