The frantic pace of the New York season doesn’t foster the healthiest habits, especially among designers. But the show must go on. And so they rely on everything from crawfish-flavored potato chips to solitaire on the computer to see them through the stress of putting a collection together. Here, a sampling of designers’ dirty little secrets for surviving the week.

“The whole week is one big McFlurry from McDonald’s. I know no one will believe that, but it’s true.”

“My only vice is my addiction to playing solitaire on the computer. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and play until I win.”

“My biggest guilty pleasure are chocolates, and before the show I eat many of them to calm me down. My favorites are the Teuscher [brand] with praline.”
“Watching ‘One Life to Live.’ I DVR it every day. I don’t care if I get home at three in the morning. I have to watch my story. Victoria Lord is going crazy right now. There are killers and ghosts. I know I should say something chic like I go to Patisse. But once I have my ‘One Life to Live’ fix, I can go do anything.”
“Potato chips. Just about every season we buy a case of Zapps, and somehow by the time the show has arrived they are gone. We like the Cajun crawfish flavor.”
“Two nights before my show, we go out with friends and drink Champagne and have a fabulous time. I need a lot of bubbles. The day after sometimes is not so great, but I know I need it.”
“Mine is always the same — tequila and Tex-Mex. After the show, we always go to Barrio Chino to have spicy jalapeno margaritas and Mexican food.”
