I’m so happy here in Italy. I’ve been staying at Il Pellicano in Porto Ercole, sipping bellinis and eating great food with my girlfriend, Yvonne. Yesterday we went to a great flea market here, where she found all the Valentino and Dolce & Gabbana knock-offs she loves. Then we ate at a restaurant called Le Mura at the top of the hills above the medieval town. They heard a chef from New York was coming and they made us the most amazing egg pasta. Then the chef promised to come to New York to cook with me. I ate some of the best handmade buffalo mozzarella that I’ve ever had, and a fantastic wild-hare ragu.
But the lunch buffet at Il Pellicano is just as good. Every day I have to eat at least a dozen of these tiny eggplants they serve stuffed with tuna. In the morning, for breakfast, they come to the table and grind your breakfast cereal from fresh grain. I’ve never seen that before, and I’m thinking about bringing it back to New York, along with a wheel of sheep’s milk cheese and maybe some salamis.
It’s a romantic place and I haven’t done anything but relax since I’ve been here. Yvonne is an Italian actress, and her whole family came down to visit us. My Italian is getting better all the time.
