Ciara on Mentorship, Motherhood and Inspiration From Hillary Clinton, Simone Biles and Jennifer Lopez
Chanel drew hot twentysomethings like Ginnifer Goodwin and Rachel Bilson to its renovated Rodeo Drive boutique, which is shaped like a box of Chanel No.5, for a fete Thursday cohosted by P.S. Arts. It’s little surprise the young guests put their own spin on the French fashion house’s grown-up looks. “I decided to wear my dress backwards at the last minute,” confessed Bilson, feeling a touch more sophisticated than usual with her swept-back chignon. “Tomorrow I’ll let my hair down again and let loose.”
Goodwin, for her part, loves dressing up. “I haven’t worn pants in years,” she said, “but I may have to get a pair of high-waisted trousers.”
And, while Kate Beckinsale blended in seamlessly wearing a beaded frock, she admitted to being perhaps a tad overdressed for her daughter Lily’s parent-teacher conference. “I was kind of horrified, but it was on the way [to the party],” she said. “I’m sure the teacher thought I was really sucking up. She was probably like, ‘Um, you don’t need to try so hard.'”
Kate Mara, Amanda Peet and Lisa Kudrow also came out, as did artists François-Xavier Lalanne, Paola Pivi and Jean-Michel Othoniel. Adding to the eclectic vibe was Cat Power, who performed a brief set at Wolfgang Puck’s restaurant, Cut, during the after party dinner.
Meanwhile, an even more junior set partied downtown at Teen Vogue’s fifth annual Young Hollywood bash held at St. Vibiana’s. “I forgot that it’s a church,” said Madeline Zima of “Californication,” mingling with the text-happy group. The former Catholic cathedral just as easily could have been mistaken for a temple to Marc Jacobs, who gave devotees a peek at the Marc by Marc Jacobs spring collection with a runway show in the nave.
Of course, few in the crowd, including Hilary Duff, Hayden Panettiere, Emma Roberts and Scout Willis, were familiar with Jacobs’ penchant for late starts. “I’m speeding through the red carpet so I can actually get inside,” said Mylie Cyrus. In the end, the show began 30 minutes after its 9 p.m. call time and, once it was over, revelers stuck around to see if Jacobs, rumored to make an appearance, would show. He didn’t, but Mary-Kate Olsen did — kind of. The tiny starlet hovered near the surrounding bushes in an unsuccessful effort to remain undetected.
