FAM Brands LLC will relaunch the Peace & Pearls collection of contemporary sportswear tops, dresses and knits in June.
The 32-piece collection of woven blouses, beaded knit tops, skirts, pants and jackets for fall-winter will be carried at major department and specialty stores and high-end boutiques. One style, a strapless dress with a tulip hemline, will be sold exclusively at Nordstrom.
Retail prices will range from $79 to $135.
FAM, a specialist of women’s activewear and bodywear by Marika and The Balance Collection with wholesale revenues in excess of $100 million, acquired Peace & Pearls in January to diversify its product and portfolio. A purchase price was not disclosed, but annual wholesale sales for the brand are projected at $5 million, said Carrie Henley, executive vice president and general manager at FAM.
She said the company will launch an upscale activewear line by Peace & Pearls in 2013.
This is FAM’s second acquisition since January when the Commerce, Calif-based company bought Teháma Inc., a specialist of upscale casual sportswear, weekendwear and high-end golf apparel for men and women. The Teháma brand, which will be relaunched for spring, was created in 1997 by Hollywood icon Clint Eastwood and designer Nancy Haley. Estimated annual wholesale revenues for the combined men’s and women’s lines including golf apparel are in excess of $40 million.
Frank Zarabi, owner and chief executive officer of FAM, said the contemporary apparel label will be a strong addition to the company’s product lineup.
“Once it was on our radar, acquiring the brand was a natural and logical decision for us,” Zarabi said. “We were ready for a more mature, contemporary brand that matches our core values of femininity, courage and spirit. Now, six months after we bought the brand, the arrival of this new Peace & Pearls collection in stores marks another important stage in FAM Brands’ carefully managed expansion within the activewear and lifestyle market niche.”
Chanda Khanna, who founded Peace & Pearls in 2009 and continues as the brand’s designer, described the inspiration for the fall-winter collection as a collage of natural and urban elements that include the “rough coastal edges of Mendocino, Calif.; the intelligent, fashion-forward sophistication of London’s Covent Garden, and the intricate vintage detail of a Paris flea market.
“The collection is loose fitting and has a lot of drapy fabrics.…There’s a lot of interest on comfort and a woman usually feels really good when wearing my designs. I often add a little knit fabric to woven styles for comfort such as a knitted back of a blouse,” said Khanna.
Fabrics will include rayon, silk and woven and knit cotton. The color palette will include a range of muted pastels of petal pink, silver gray and tea stain tempered by rich hues of eggplant, deep berry, magenta and black.
FAM Brands, founded in 1985, owns the Marika name and manufactures licensed product for Bally Total Fitness, Laura Ashley and Eddie Bauer.
