NEW YORK — Rod Beattie will design a new contemporary swimwear line for New York-based A.H. Schreiber Co. The line, which is named Bleu by Rod Beattie, will be introduced at the Miami SwimShow in July for the 2012 season.

Beattie resigned last month from Los Angeles-based Apparel Ventures Inc., where he had designed the La Blanca swimwear collection for a total of 17 years, with a break between 1995 and 1999, when he designed swimwear for the Anne Cole Collection, then part of the Warnaco Group.

“Rod’s talent for design and passion for the swimwear business, combined with his long-term success rate, are the primary reasons we sought him out to create this new label,” said Avram Schreiber, president of A.H. Schreiber, a third-generation family-owned swimwear manufacturer here. The company’s annual sales are more than $100 million, and the firm produces about 12 million swimsuits annually.

A.H. Schreiber designs, manufactures and distributes swimwear under the Beach Native, OceanFront Properties, Delta Burke, Longitude, Robby Len and Dotti Covers labels. In addition, the firm has the exclusive license for Badgley Mischka contemporary swimwear.

The showroom for Beattie’s line will be in New York, and the designer, who lives in Los Angeles, will establish a design studio there.
