Spyder Active Sports Inc., a ski and apparel performance company, has named Thomas McGann chief executive officer. He succeeds Jake Jacobs, who will remain a member of the board.

McGann served most recently as president of Burton. He also has been ceo of Motorsport Aftermarket Group. At Spyder, he will be charged with ensuring profitable growth and maximizing performance for the ski apparel company.

David Jacobs, Spyder founder and chairman and Jake Jacobs’ father, pointed to McGann’s experience as key to the hire. “He knows the space, and he knows the industry. I’m confident he’ll reinforce Spyder as the number-one ski brand.”

The Boulder, Colo.-based firm acquired Cloudveil Mountain Works, an outdoors brand focused on snow sports, fly-fishing, and lifestyle apparel, last year.

McGann said he believes he can build on the company’s “strong foundation” and “leverage these two outstanding brands for growth.” He said he would focus on enhancing dealer service and creating an inclusive internal planning process.

At the same time, Doug Hood has been hired as chief financial officer. Like McGann, he has been with Motorsport Aftermarket Group, as well as Aspen Marketing Group and SCI Promotion. He will be responsible for the company’s short- and long-term financial goals.

Spyder was founded in 1978 by introducing a padded slalom sweater. Its products now are distributed in more than 50 countries around the world.
