Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Under Armour have teamed up.
The activewear brand has tapped Johnson, a WWE wrestler-turned-actor, to develop his own product range, push its Connected Fitness platforms and promote its philanthropic initiative, UA Freedom, which benefits members of the U.S. military, first responders and public safety officials.
For the Connected Fitness platform, Johnson will help produce original content that’s pulled from his own fitness regimen. His capsule collections will be inspired by the films in which he will appear. The first collection includes a backpack and duffel bag that will launch on the brand’s e-commerce site and its retail stores in the next few weeks.
“We wanted to empower as many people as possible to attack their goals, so we partnered with the best innovators in the health and fitness business,” said Johnson, who recently took home the 2016 People’s Choice Award for Favorite Premium Cable TV Actor in the HBO series “Ballers.” Johnson will also star in the movie “Central Intelligence” this year alongside comedian and actor Kevin Hart, who recently developed a pair of sneakers with Nike.
Under Armour’s current roster includes Stephen Curry, Tom Brady, Cam Newton, Misty Copeland, Jordan Spieth, Lindsey Vonn, Andy Murray and Michael Phelps. This deal marks the first time Under Armour has partnered with an actor.
