PARIS — Givenchy plans to take a pause from presenting its couture collection, WWD has learned.
The French fashion house said it would continue making high fashions and welcome clients to its salons, but it won’t show a collection to the press during the next couture week in Paris, scheduled from Jan. 21 to 24.
It is understood Givenchy will continue to showcase its couture on celebrities during high-profile events, such as the Costume Institute gala at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art in May, for which Givenchy’s couturier Riccardo Tisci is a cochair.
Earlier this year, Givenchy dressed Madonna in couture for her performance during halftime at the Super Bowl.
Givenchy and Tisci have been moving toward a more personalized approach to couture in recent years.
In 2010, Tisci stopped staging couture shows and instead presented 10 looks in a still-life format at a town house on Paris’ Place Vendôme.
Givenchy noted it continues to invest in its couture atelier and does not rule out couture presentations in the future.
Etro’s show, titled “The Tree of Life,” was a celebration of the house’s 50th anniversary. “My father founded the company in 1968, which was the year of counterculture and psychedelia. It’s really a show that celebrates that and the paisley design of India and its origin,” said Veronica Etro. #wwdfashion #mfw #ss18 (📷: @delphineachard)
