In a joint statement issued Thursday, Current and Elliott provided no reason for their departure but maintained they will continue to work together outside of the framework of Current/Elliott. They said they have a number of design projects on the horizon and also will carry on styling and consulting.
“We are so proud of what we have accomplished with Current/Elliott,” Current and Elliott said. “Parting ways has been a difficult decision, but we are thrilled for our next chapter in design and to perpetuate our whimsical Americana aesthetic across multiple categories.”
Current and Elliott, longtime Los Angeles-based stylists who were inducted into the CFDA this year, most recently acted as consultants to Current/Elliott, which they founded with Serge Azria in 2008. Azria’s company, Dutch LLC, owns Current/Elliott, as well as Equipment and Joie, and he is the chief executive officer and creative director of Current/Elliott.
Current/Elliott rose to popularity on the strength of its faded washes and boyfriend jeans, a celebrity favorite seen on the likes of Rachel Bilson and Jennifer Aniston. The brand is available in more than 1,000 retail doors, including Barneys New York, Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus.
