NEW YORK — After only a few months, Richard Mandell is out as president and chief executive officer of the Hampshire Group Ltd., though he remains with the company as a director.

Mandell was named president and ceo in April. Heath Golden has been promoted to those posts, and will also serve as a director.

Golden was previously executive vice president and chief operating officer. He will continue to maintain “much of those responsibilities,” but he will share some of them with the senior management team, a Hampshire spokeswoman said.

In other company news, Howard Zwilling has joined the Hampshire Group as president of its women’s division, which consists of the Hampshire Designers and Item Eyes businesses, a new post. His responsibilities were previously handled by Hank Sinkel, president of Hampshire Designers, and Marc Abramson, president of Item Eyes. Sinkel left the company Wednesday. Abramson remains at Item Eyes as president.

Zwilling, a 30-year industry veteran, was most recently group ceo of Jones Apparel Group Inc.’s moderate sportswear business. In that role, he oversaw Miss Erika, Pappagallo, Joneswear, Joneswear Studio, Evan Picone, Bandolino, Norton McNaughton, Nine & Co. and Rene Rowan.
