Milan’s 10 Corso Como store will open its first unit in China in Shanghai, on Nanjing West Road, with an event on Sept. 12. In a partnership with Trendy International Group, the interiors of the glass, 27,000-square-foot, four-level unit will be designed and illustrated by American artist Kris Ruhs with playful black-and-white drawings flanked by floor-to-ceiling windows.
Carla Sozzani, who founded the original concept store in Milan in 1990, said, “Shanghai’s vibrant art and fashion scene is an ideal location for our destination store. I love the proximity to Jing’an Temple and the park; it is a nice balance of modernity and tradition.”
The venue will carry labels ranging from Azzedine Alaïa and Maison Martin Margiela to Fendi, Chloé and Jil Sander, and emerging brands such as Carven. “Fashion is a language I enjoy speaking. Listening, watching and understanding the language of fashion tells me a lot about what is going on in the world. It is something to enjoy and explore. For me, it inspires and motivates with ideas on the way to live and what is happening. It is a profound and critical part of our social fabric,” said Sozzani.
Design, cosmetics, 10 Corso Como branded products, a bookstore and pastry café with an outside terrace will be housed on the first floor. Fashion brands will be on the second floor, as well as a “su misura” corner for handmade tailoring designs, in addition to a space dedicated to events, special projects and collaborations with artists from China and around the world. The third floor will carry women’s fashion, and the Italian restaurant and lounge will be located on the top floor, as well as 10 Corso Como Shanghai’s Gallery. The first exhibition to be held here is slated to be “23 Years of Galleria Carla Sozzani,” a retrospective of the photo exhibitions held during the past 20 years at 10 Corso Como.
